How to install Windows 10 on a Mac system

Here, we have prepared a complete detailed installation guidelines to install the Windows 10 Operating System on your Mac system. The process doesn’t require much time, and at the end you will bring the original Windows 10 system to your Mac.

Apart from this, if you don’t want to use Windows 10 anymore after installing it to your Mac system then we would guide you to remove it from your Mac system as well. So from here, you are going to know about installing and removing Windows 10 OS on a Mac system.



Before we move on to the actual installation process, you need to know about a few things first. In order to install Windows 10 on a respective Mac system, you don’t have to have a licensed version of the Windows 10 Operating System. You just need to have a proper ISO file of Windows 10 so we can install it on a Mac system.

Additionally, you need to have a proper Pendrive or we can say an external drive to install the Windows system to a Mac system. A proper Windows 10 running PC and a Mac system is also required to do the process. Once you confirmed with all these things, you will be good to go with the process. One more thing is essential to have with you is, good high speed Internet connection to download the ISO file of the Windows 10 Operating System from the web. Since the ISO file weighs more, high speed Internet connection is required, otherwise your downloading will be interrupted and you will have to restart downloading process from the beginning.

Note : Since you don’t need a licensed version of Windows 10 for the installation process, it is only available for free trial of 30 days. If you want to use it after 30 days, it will require a genuine license.

The installation process of the Windows 10 Operating System for Mac system can be divided in three different parts. First part is for download the iOS file of Windows 10, the second part is to prepare the installation for the Mac system and the third part is of the final installation program. We would guide you through all the parts.

First Part – Getting Windows 10 files

Step 1 :

First of all, you have to download Media Creation File of the Windows 10 Operating System from the below mentioned link. This is also known as Disk Image.



Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File)

Step 2 :

Click on to the above mentioned link and you will be on an official Windows 10 ISO file download page. From here, you need to select the edition of the Windows 10 OS which you want to download for a Mac system.

Make sure to select a proper compatible version for Windows 10 Operating System which you want. There are 32 bit and 64 bit editions available from which you can download it.

Step 3 :

From the available Window, you have to select Language, Edition and 64-bit Architecture of Windows 10 Operating System to be installed on a Mac system.

Step 4 :

The next screen will ask you whether to download it with USB Flash Drive or ISO file.

Step 5 :

From the Window, make sure to select ISO file and then hit the Next button.

Step 6 :

Next, you would be asked to save the Windows 10 installer file on your system. Select ISO file format and then click on to the Save button.

Note : You can direct save the ISO file to the USB Flash Drive. To do so, you need to insert a USB Flash Drive and then select it when you see the option. Additionally, you can save this ISO file to anywhere on the PC and then you can copy it whenever needed.

Step 7 :

Since the file weighs a little high, it will take a few minutes to complete the entire downloading process. The process depends upon the Internet connection speed that you are currently having.

 

This is what you need to do in order to get an ISO file of the Windows 10 for the Mac system. Make sure to get it copied to an additional USB Flash Drive so that we can install it on a Mac system.  Now, let’s move on to the second part of the process.

Second Part- Prepare the Installation

Step 1 :

First, you have to get a copy of the Windows 10 ISO file to an external Flash Drive. You have to copy the downloaded ISO file to your Windows 10 system.

Step 2 :

Now, insert this USB Flash Drive to the Mac system. Keep it connected until the process is done. Make sure there is no any other external drive attached to your system.

Step 3 :

After this, run Boot Camp Assistant. You can press Command+ Space bar and can search for Boot Camp Assistant on your Mac system. After this, click on to the Continue button to move ahead with the installation process. You can even search for it from the Applications/ Utilities and then select Boot Camp Assistant for the same.

Step 4 :

The Assistant will fetch the files from the external drive and you could see three different options with tick marks. Click on all the options and then hit the Continue button for the same.

Step 5 :

The Flash Drive’s ISO file will be automatically located to the Mac system. If not, you can click the Choose button and can fetch the ISO file by your own.

Step 6 :

After this, click on to the Continue button.

Step 7 :

You will be asked you create the partition for Mac and Windows systems. Make sure to select it properly and at the end, hit the Continue button for the same.

Step 8 :

Once confirmed, hit the Install button.



Step 9 :

Once you click on to the Install button, your Mac system will itself Restart and you will be taken to the Installation process.

This is what you need to do in order to prepare the system to install the Mac system. Now, the third and last part you need to do is to install the Windows 10 ISO file to your Mac system. Let’s move on to the third part which is the final installation part.

Part Three- Installing Windows 10 to Mac system

Step 1 :

Since, the Computer is starting itself, it will turn on with the Windows 10 setup process. You can see the Windows 10 setup window on the screen of your Mac.

Step 2 :

Just like the normal Windows 10 setup, you need to choose the Language, Time and Currency format of your country. Choose it wisely when asked and then hit the Next button.



Step 3 :



The next screen will ask you to enter the Windows 10 product key. If you have a licensed version of Windows 10 with proper License key then you have to put that key here and then hit the Next button. If you are just trying it for free, then you can click the Skip button and you will not be asked to enter the product key.

Step 4 :

After this, you would be presented a screen with all the available hard drive partitions. From the available options, you need to select the one with BOOTCAMP, here’s the original Windows 10 file stored.



Step 5 :

After selecting the option, click the Format button to move ahead.

Note : Don’t do anything to the other partitions of the drive.

Step 6 :

The Setup will ask you to install the new System on your PC. Click the Ok button and then Next button.



Step 7 :



The setup process of Windows 10 Operating System will itself take place. You could see the progress on your screen just like the normal Windows 10 installation.

Step 8 :

The installation process will take upto 30 minutes to complete the entire process. You have to patient until the process is done.

Step 9 : 

Soon, your Mac will restart with Windows 10 screen. Initially, you have to follow basic instructions to setup your Windows 10 first. Follow all the instructions wisely and soon, you will see the Windows 10 screen on your Mac’s screen.

First, you have to create your own user profile to setup your profile first. It will take a few minutes and you will be able to use your own profile.

After this, you have to restart or reboot your system once. You will be greeted with Windows 10 screen.

Your Mac system has two different Operating System, MacOS and the new Windows 10 Operating System. Step 1 :

Restart your system and select MacOS to turn the system on.

Now, go to the Applications and select Utilities option and then select Boot Camp Assistant. Or you can easily launch the Boot Camp Assistant from spotlight option by pressing Command and Space bar button. Enter Boot Camp Assistant and hit the Enter button.

Step 3 :

You would se different options from which you need to select  Remove Windows 7 or later version. Click on to the Continue button once you select the third option.

Step 4 :

After this, you just need to hit the Restore button. You could see MacOS option there which will be restored back to your Mac system.

Step 5 :

You will have to enter your Mac’s username and password for the same. Make sure to enter the right username and password.

Step 6 :

Click the Ok button to confirm the process. The process will itself take place and you have to wait until it’s done.



Step 7 :

The process will take a few minutes to complete the removing process of Windows 10 setup files from your Mac system. At the end, the Windows 10 Operating System will be removed completely from your system.

Before doing so, you have to keep in mind that removing Windows 10 from your system will remove all the software and data stored on your system in the Windows 10 partition. So if you have stored important data in Windows 10 drive, you have to copy and replace it to other external drive.

This is how the entire system will be restored with the original MacOS which is there on your system. The setup files of the Windows 10 system will be removed from your system and you will be able to use the MacOS back on your Mac system.
