How to Play Windows XP Classic Solitaire in Windows 10 PC

Solitaire is one of the most popular old age classic card game which was first introduced with Windows 3.0 in 1990. The same game gets regular updates with every new version of Windows Operating Systems. Microsofts’ recent Windows versions i.e. Windows 8 and Windows 10 doesn’t offer this classic card games. So if you are looking for a way to install and play this Solitaire game to your upgraded Windows 8 or Windows 10 PC, following tutorial will help you to do so.

Microsoft is offering a whole new Microsoft Solitaire Collection in this latest Windows 10 Operating System with a number of improvements to its actual gameplay and graphics. This package comes with an additional advertisements, if you want to get rid of such unwanted and annoying advertisements, you have to pay for its monthly subscriptions. If you don’t want to go with it and want the same Windows XP edition of the Classic Solitaire game on your Windows 10 PC, here’s the steps which you need to follow.

Note : Make sure you have an access of Windows XP PC. There are many systems and home based computers who are still running on the old, Windows XP Operating System. Since, the Classic Solitaire game comes as preinstalled game, you can easily access the core files of this game from the Windows XP PC.

How to Play Windows XP Classic Solitaire in Windows 10 PC

Step 1 :

Turn On your Windows XP PC.

Step 2 :

Go to the Computer or My Computer’s icon to explore the hard drive partitions in your computer.

Step 3 :

Here, you would see different sections of your hard drive. Kindly click on Local Disk (C) option from here.

Step 4 :

From the available folders, you need to select the Windows folder and then System32 folder.

Step 5 :

From this Window, you need to click on to the Search option from the front bar.

Step 6 :

At the left side bar, you would see a number of options from which you need to select All files and folders option.

Step 7 :

Type in the following files into the Search box.

cards.dll, sol.exe

Step 8 :

Once you enter the above files, click on the Search button to search for them in the folder.

Step 9 :

Make sure to copy the cards.dll and sol.exe files to an external USB Flash Drive.

Step 10 :

Once the above files copied to your Flash Drive, just disconnect your Flash drive.

Step 11 :

Now, go to your Windows 10 PC and insert this USB Flash drive there.

Step 12 :

Go to the My Computer or Computer option and open the Local Disk (C) Option.

Step 13 :

Now, copy and past the cards.dll and sol.exe files here from the USB Flash drive.

Step 14 :

After this, you can disconnect the USB Flash Drive from the Windows 10 PC.

Step 15 :

From the above files, just double click on to the sol.exe file from the two different files.

You’re done with the installation process of the Classic Solitaire game on your Windows 10 PC. Just click on to the icon of the Classic Solitaire game and start playing it on your system from there. For quicker access to this game, you can create a shortcut of this game as well.

The Classic Solitaire game which we have copied from the Windows XP system, works beautifully on Windows 10 system and does offer the same gameplay and user interface like you were playing on the old Windows XP PC. The game doesn’t load the help feature on Windows 10 PC system like you open in the Windows XP system. Otherwise, it works just perfectly.

If for some reason, you don’t want to play this game anymore on your Windows 10 PC and want to remove it completely from your system, just delete the two files which we had copied. You don’t need to uninstall the game, just delete these files from the Windows 10 system and the game will be deleted from your Windows 10 PC.

Additionally, Microsoft has released an improved version of this Classic Solitaire game for Windows Vista and Windows 7. However, it doesn’t work on the Windows 10 PC. So, it is better for you to copy the files from your Windows XP and copy them to Windows 10 PC to start playing it on Windows 10 system.
